Reciprocating Gait Orthosis |
Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO) is a useful
supplement to a wheelchair. Although not
as energy efficient, they enable paraplegic patients
to sit, stand and ambulate with the aid of crutches or
a walker. Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO) is
generally suitable for patients with spinal injury
levels of T-6 or lower, minimal contractures, adequate upper-body
strength and sufficient endurance.
During the past twenty plus years, the concept of
utilizing reciprocating motion in the orthotic design for paraplegics has
evolved into a highly effective system. As more patients are being
fitted with the Reciprocating Gait Orthosis (RGO), the concepts of
rationale and success factors are evolving.
